Aitz Hayim In The City, a two-year-old worship community that seeks imaginative ways to celebrate Shabbat, will focus this month’s service on “Tu B’Shevat: Celebrating A New Year For Trees, A Renewal Of Our Spirit In The Darkness of Winter,” 7:30 p.m., Friday, Feb. 8, in Anshe Emet Synagogue, 3760 N. Pine Grove Ave. The public is invited to attend and enjoy refreshments and socializing afterwards.
Aitz Hayim In the City’s services on the second Friday of each month are led by the congregation’s founder, Dr. Ruth Durchslag, and Cantor David Landau, with music by the three-piece jazz band The Levites, headed by Grammy award-winning instrumentalist Howard Levy.
“Tu B’Shevat is the time when new sap begins to rise in the trees,” explained Dr. Durchslag. “Although we are in the cold and darkness of winter, we too have the promise of renewal, of a new life.”
