State Representative Larry McKeon is helping to promote February as “Financial Aid/Admission Awareness Month” as thousands of students prepare to enroll in college. The Illinois Student Assistance Commission (ISAC), the state’s centralized agency for providing financial assistance to college students and families, is focusing on the month of February to promote financial aid and college admission education.
This marks the thirteenth year that February has been proclaimed “Financial Aid/Admission Awareness month.” February has been chosen since many families are preparing for their students to enroll in college during the coming fall and begin searching for financial aid options, such as scholarships and grants. February is also a good time for adults to consider continuing their education, as well.
“I hope that all students, regardless of age, will take advantage of the available Financial Aid workshops planned for this month and learn more about enrolling in college and financing higher education,” explained McKeon.
ISAC administers nearly all state and federal grants, scholarships, loans and prepaid tuition programs offered to Illinois residents. Since its inception in 1957, the agency has evolved into a one-stop financial aid center. Overall, ISAC awards in excess of $1 billion to over 250,000 qualified students and families annually.
