The Chicago Department of Environment has launched an informative new Web site entitled “A Bird’s Eye View of the Migratory Bird Route,” highlighting the native and migratory birds of Chicago. The Web site, found at www.cityofchicago.org/environment, is packed with photos, migration maps, and other information about birds in Chicago.
Visitors to the site can even hear various bird calls and can manipulate pictures of 24 birds in a full 360-degree view. The site is also connected to a live “Nest Cam” located in a bird house at the North Park Village Nature Center.
Students and birders can link to detailed information about birds, bird-watching sites in Chicago, birding groups and efforts to protect birds and bird habitat. Homeowners and even high-rise owners can find out how to maintain a bird-friendly environment.
Chicagoans can see more than 300 species of birds; more than five million birds pass through Chicago annually during their migratory journey.
