Free Loop tour train worth doing



Tour Chicago’s historic downtown Loop district aboard the Chicago Transit Authority (CTA) elevated trains May through September. Loop Tour Trains depart from the Randolph and Wabash station every Saturday afternoon at 11:35 a.m., 12:15 p.m., 12:55 p.m., and 1:35 p.m. Each tour runs approximately 40 minutes.

Chicago Architecture Foundation docents present the history of the downtown area and elevated train system. The ‘L’ offers a unique vantage point for seeing Chicago’s internationally renowned architecture.

Loop Tour Train tickets are free and must be obtained in advance at the Chicago Office of Tourism Visitor Information Center on the first floor of the Chicago Cultural Center, 77 East Randolph St. at Michigan Ave. The Chicago Cultural Center opens at 10 a.m. on Saturday, and is one block east of the Randolph and Wabash CTA Stations, where the tours originate. For wheelchair accessibility, guests can make arrangements when picking up tour tickets. The train can be scheduled to stop at the fully accessible Clark/Lake CTA station. Tickets are available on the day of the tour and may only be used on Saturday afternoons at the time indicated on the tickets.

Each tour includes three trips clockwise around the inner Loop ‘L’ above Wabash, Van Buren, Wells and Lake Streets.
