PAWS Chicago holds Angels with Tails Walking Tour

Magnificent Mile puts ‘doggies and kitties in the window’

PAWS (Pets Are Worth Saving) Chicago will hold its fifth annual Angels with Tails Walking Tour from noon to 5 p.m. on Sunday, May 19, along Oak Street and North Michigan Avenue. Such stores as Barneys New York, FAO Schwarz and Polo Ralph Lauren will showcase the sweet faces of Chicago’s homeless dogs, cats, puppies and kittens for adoption.

PAWS Chicago created the Angels with Tails adoption events to elevate the status of shelter animals. More than 35,000 cats and dogs are euthanized each year in Chicago because shelters cannot house or find homes for the overburdening number of stray, abandoned and unwanted pets. “We want everyone to see how beautiful and highly-adoptable shelter animals are,” said Paula Fasseas, PAWS Chicago founder and chair. “It’s very tragic that so many do not get a second chance at life.”

Participating stores include: Barneys New York, Billy Hork Galleries, Elements, Escada Boutique, FAO Schwarz, In Chicago for Men, Kate Spade, LaSalle Bank, Max Mara, Neiman Marcus, Polo Ralph Lauren, Rikei Boutique and St. John Boutique.

Participating shelters include: Animal Adoption Associates, Big Hearts/Little Packages, Chicago Canine Rescue, Chicago Community Humane Center, City of Chicago Animal Care and Control, Felines Inc., Furry Friends Foundation, Greyhounds Only Inc., Harmony House, Illinois Cocker Rescue, PAWS Chicago, Pekinese Rescue, S.T.R.A.E.S. (Shih Tzu Rescue), Save-A-Pet and Tree House Animal Foundation. Angels with Tails is sponsored by PETCO, North Community Bank and 93XRT Radio.

Through low-cost pet sterilization, adoption programs and humane education, PAWS Chicago is working to establish Chicago as a no-kill city by ending the unnecessary killing of adoptable pets. PAWS Chicago operates the city’s only high-volume, low-cost spay/neuter clinic strategically placed to service neighborhoods with the highest numbers of stray and unwanted pets.
