Columbia College Chicago honored its late president, Mike Alexandroff, at a ceremony May 1 when it renamed its main college building the Alexandroff Campus Center.

Alexandroff served the College from 1962 until his retirement in 1992. He passed away last year.

The building, at 600 S. Michigan Ave., was the first bought by the college when, under Alexandroff, it expanded from a student body of 175 to more than 2000. Today, 9000 students attend classes at several South Loop locations.

The dedication ceremony heard remarks from Warrick L. Carter, current president of Columbia; John Duff, president emeritus; and several board members of the

school including Dr. Quentin Young and Lerone Bennett, Jr. Two of Alexandroff’s children, Norman and Pam, also paid tribute. The ceremony concluded with a musical tribute to Mike Alexandroff performed by his friend Deni Dimitreas.
