Community comes together to clean up neighborhoods

On Saturday, May 4, hundreds of community members came out to clean and beautify the 47th Ward. Community groups, businesses, schools, and residents were enjoying the pleasant weather while doing something good for the environment and the community. Ald. Gene Schulter distributed refreshments to volunteers throughout the Ward and the city provided brooms, rakes and trash bags.

“The parents were really happy their children were doing something good for the community,” says Raul Esparz from Chase Park. “At Chase Park the children were smiling and having a good time while picking up papers and leaves around the park.”

“We were extremely pleased with the participation of the 47th Ward community and groups in our Spring Clean Up, where involvement has increased each year,” says Streets and Sanitation Superintendent John Samuels.

Groups involved in the Ward Clean Up include: Amundsen High School, Neighborhood Boys and Girls Club, Sears, Troop #894 from Queen of Angels, Sunnyside/Greenview Neighbors for Action, St. Matthias, McPherson Elementary School, DeVry Institute of Technology, Lincoln Square Chamber of Commerce, Cub Pack #3894, Coonley Elementary School, Parent Patrol of Audubon, Ravenswood Elementary School, Post Card Place Condominium Association, Chase Park, Bell Elementary School, Winnemac Park, Paul Revere Park, Jane Addams Resource Center, Ravenswood Station Lofts, Water Reclamation of Greater Chicago, Northcenter Chamber of Commerce, Ravenswood Industrial Council, Welles Park, and Ravenswood Chamber of Commerce.
