Tibetan seek refuge ? again

Some Tibetans walked over the frozen passes of the Himalayas, to trains, planes, and ships before arriving in Chicago. Once here they faced new challenges under a constant burden of homesickness.

An apartment building in the 5200 block of Sheridan Rd. served as a place for Tibetans to take refuge from the new American society where they could gather and teach their language and culture.

The owners of the building allowed the refugees to use the apartment/community center rent free until the company needed to expand their offices. The Tibetans will be on the move again and are concerned that the rent for a new temporary facility will push back their plans for a permanent location that they want to purchase.
