On Wednesday, May 22, a letter of intent was signed by Boulevard Healthcare announcing that it intends to purchase the Barr Pavilion at 66 W. Oak St. The Pavilion is a premier extended care facility in the Gold Coast.
The decision to sell Warren Barr Pavilion was made after an evaluation of the services that Advocate Health Care offers. “Historically, Advocate Health Care has divested its interest in skilled nursing facilities since it is not a core activity of the organization,” said Ken Rojek, chief executive of Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center, the Advocate hospital associated with Warren Barr Pavilion. “Selling Warren Barr Pavilion allows us to access needed capital to reinvest in our core activities of inpatient and outpatient health care.”
“We are pleased to have identified an organization that will uphold the same high standard of care,” said Rojek. “Boulevard is an established leader in rehabilitation and sub-acute care in extended care facilities. In fact, in 2000 Boulevard purchased the Advocate Transitional Care Center in Evergreen Park (formerly Peace Memorial Home), a skilled care facility that is now known as Evergreen Health Center. Their ability to excel in this area of health care made them a clear choice to continue the legacy of Warren Barr Pavilion.”
Fred Benjamin, chief executive officer of Boulevard Healthcare, said, “We look forward to another smooth transition of ownership that will benefit the residents, families and employees of Warren Barr.”
The letter of intent to sell Warren Barr Pavilion was approved by the Advocate board of directors on Wednesday, May 15.
Boulevard Healthcare Management, LLC, based in Skokie, currently manages 11 long-term care and rehabilitation facilities in the Chicago area, southern Illinois, Wisconsin and Ohio.
