Kids' kingdom of health and happiness

Step into the world of the Kids’ Kingdom of Health and Happiness from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, June 1, at the Galter Medical Pavilion of Swedish Covenant Hospital. You will be greeted by the king and queen as you journey through the variety of health exhibits and interactive programs for the whole family.

Participate in various health screenings, such as speech and language evaluations, and foot screenings. Explore the many informational and interactive health exhibits, including the Teddy Bear clinic, the art of applying a finger cast, and the sight of your eardrum on the “magic” monitor. Learn about asthma prevention and management, bicycle safety, emergency assistance and safety, and more. Tours of the Mother & Baby unit and the surgery department are also scheduled.

Visitors from outside the “kingdom” also will be in attendance. The Chicago BlueCross Care Van will administer immunizations (please bring immunization records). Representatives from KidCare, the state health insurance program for children under 18 and pregnant women, WIC, the City of Chicago KIDS identification program, and other community organizations will be present.

Finally, relax in the “Kings Court” where you can participate in the “Smarter Kids, Safer Kids “ program, sponsored by B’nai B’rith International, at 12:30 p.m., and be entertained by the wise storyteller at 1:30 p.m. All who attend the “Smarter Kids, Safer Kids” presentation will receive a free Teddy Bear.

A Baby Derby (for princes and princesses who can crawl but not yet walk) will be held at 11:45 a.m. Reservations are needed as spaces are limited. Families are invited to have their photograph taken in the Royal Photo Shop. Registration is required for the Baby Derby, and registration for the event is encouraged. Please call (773) 878-1304 and receive a program and map in advance.
