Police issued a business alert because similar robberies with a handgun have occurred recently in the 20th and 23rd Districts. The businesses that have been robbed are taverns, grocery stores, and gas stations. In two instances the offenders have fired the handgun.

Two male black suspects enter a business. They display a handgun and demand currency from the cashiers. One offender usually stands at the entrance and serves as a lookout.

A third and at times a fourth offender will be waiting in a getaway car that is described as a small red or maroon 4-door Honda or Mazda.

The first offender is described as black male, 20-30 years old, 5'7" to 5'9" and 170 lb., black hair and a dark complexion. A police composite is shown at left.

The second offender is also a black male, 20-30 years old, 5'11" to 6'2" and 180 lb., brown eyes, black hair and a dark complexion.

The offenders change hairstyles and have been known to wear braids. They also may wear hats or hooded sweatshirts or jackets.

Police are asking anyone who sees people who match the descriptions and who are acting suspiciously to call 911.

The police also advise that if you are being robbed you should take no action that would jeopardize your safety. Note the physical appearances of the offenders and remember the exact words that are spoken to you.

Do not touch anything in the location, or allow anyone else to disturb the area where the crime occurred until police investigators and evidence technicians have finished processing the scene of the crime.

Call 911 as soon as it is safe to do so and you are assured that there is no threat to your safety.
