Senior Writer1035 North Dearborn St. is beginning to take shape as one of the city's most prestigious addresses. With the ground breaking scheduled for early autumn, JDL Development Corporation President James Letchinger said that he has already seen "good sales interest. In fact, a number have already been sold," Letchinger said.
To be known as Maple Tower, the building has "small" apartments sized at about 2000 square feet and larger ones up to 4700 square feet. Prices for the ultra-luxe units are scaled between $935,000 and $3.4 million. The 23 unit building will have parking on the first three levels and two apartments per floor between floors 4 and 12, with the remaining five units each occupying a whole floor. An indoor pool and exercise room will be available, an amenity unusual for such a small building.
Among other projects, JDL has completed buildings at 210 E. Walton St. and the Elm Tower at Dearborn and Elm streets. In spite of recent newspaper accounts of some financing adjustments, Letchinger said that the Maple Tower property — located on the site of the former Blake Lamb Funeral Home — is definitely a "go" as is a larger 112 unit development scheduled for construction on the 2900 block of N. Paulina Ave.
