Saeed Younger, 22, of the 4600 block of N. Sheridan Rd. and Jeremie Younger, 20, of the same address, were arrested the next day after evading the arresting officers. The suspects are charged with aggravated battery to a police officer and attempting to disarm a police officer. Jeremie Younger was also charged with possession of cannabis.
According to police reports, two officers in full uniform witnessed seven or eight male individuals loitering who were known to the officers as being members of the Gangster Disciples street gang.
The officers proceeded to conduct a gang dispersal but as one officer approached the group, he noticed a bulge at the waistband of Jeremie Younger. The officer lifted the suspect's shirt and saw a clear plastic bag that he suspected to be cannabis.
The officer proceeded to place the suspect in custody but the suspect began to resist by kicking and punching the officer. Both fell to the ground.
The second officer came to the arresting officer's aid, pinning the suspect to the ground. The second offender jumped on the officers and attempted to remove the arresting officer's handgun.
Both offenders tried to disarm both police during the melee. While police were using both hands to keep their weapons, the suspects attempted to flee. One offender's shirt was ripped from his back in the attempt to detain him. He ran northbound on Winthrop Ave. then eastbound through yards.
The other offender was grabbed by his back-pack but he slipped from the shoulder straps and ran southbound on Winthrop Ave. and then westbound on Lawrence Ave.
The arresting officers sustained bruises and torn clothing. A search of the backpack disclosed a photo ID of one offender for positive identification and a search of the Information Collection for Automated Mapping (ICAM) confirmed the identity of the suspects.
