World music at CCC
The annual World Music Festival Sept. 20-29 features a mixture of traditional and contemporary music from internationally acclaimed artists showcased in admission-free concerts and live broadcast radio interviews and performances at the Chicago Cultural Center (CCC), 78 E. Washington St. There will also be two ticketed concerts presented across the street at the Storefront Theater, 66 E. Randolph St.
Three CCC concerts are scheduled at 7 p.m. under the Chicago Cultural Center’s grand Tiffany dome in Preston Bradley Hall. They mark the Chicago debut of artists from Turkey, Syria, and Poland. Legendary Turkish violinist Kemani Cemal & Group Sulukule perform Monday, Sept. 23. Ensemble Al-Kindi interprets classical Arab music Tuesday, Sept. 24. The young virtuosi of The Cracow Klezmer Band celebrate Jewish music in a concert Thursday, Sept. 26.
Ken Vandermark brings American and Swedish improvisers together in Territory Band-3 for two ticketed performances at the Storefront Theater at 10:30 p.m., Friday and Saturday, Sept. 20 and 21.
