Rocco “Rocky” Bellavia, 84, was brutally murdered on Saturday, Sept. 28, and his metallic tan ‘97 Mercury Sable station wagon, license number C71 5824, was stolen.
A National Rifle Association decal is displayed on either the rear bumper or the rear window of the stolen vehicle.
Police are asking anyone with any additional information to call 911 or Area Three Homicide at (312) 744-8261.
What began as a missing person case ended when the body of Bellavia was found in his garage at 3258 N. Hoyne Ave. A broken blood stained brick was found near the body and his automobile was gone.
A friend received a call from Bellavia’s 82-year-old wife who said that her husband left the house at approximately 10:40 a.m. and was expected to return in a few minutes.
After a few hours, she became concerned when he did not return. At 1:30 p.m. police found the victim in the garage. Police estimate that the murder took place between 10:45 a.m. and 2 p.m.
Bellavia was know as the “Mayor of Roscoe Village” because he took time to be a good citizen, and a kind neighbor to everyone he met. He did many things: drove a tow truck, ran a gas station, owned a muffler shop, and worked as a carpenter. His many talents put him in contact will all sorts of people, and all sorts of people will miss his generosity, his friendship, and his aid. |
