PDF / Adobe Acrobat file format: Preferred.

We prefer print-ready PDF (Portable Document Format) files, which can be made with many programs, and were popularized by Adobe Acrobat from Adobe (See http://www.adobe.com/acrofamily/main.html for more information.)

PDF can be produced by most graphic design software, and a standalone PDF creator from Adobe is available to turn most other document types into PDF format. However, become familiar with the settings for the software you use to ensure that all fonts are included and that artwork, especially bitmapped artwork (photos and scans) are included at high resolution, and will reproduce well in print. Settings that produce adequate results on a laserprinter or on-screen are NOT adequate for commercial printing proccesses.

In your PDF, make SURE that you have included ALL fonts, and have not over-compressed photographs. Also make certain that if you have photographs, that you have specified a line screen of 85 lpi or less. Photographs that do not have a line screen specified may not print properly: grayscale images printed conventionally are muddy and dark and may appear to be nearly solid black.

Try not to include any stray marks or information on your PDF. Do not use crop marks, or any labels or extra information that extends to the left, to the right or above the artwork. If you have caption or label information, place it BELOW the artwork at least 1/4" from the bottom of the artwork.

That being said, it is a GOOD idea to put as much information in THAT area as possible. The ad's description, the client or company it represents, the run dates, the reproduction size, and contact informtion for the client or designer are good things to show in that area.

If you used a program that we have available in-house, consider also sending the original source files for your ad. If last-minute changes or corrections are required, we may be able to intervene on your behalf. Typesetting charges will apply, however, if we do need to work on your files.
