Her 24 years running a catering business in Vail, CO, gave Roberta Sanders a taste for something she could not get in her mountain home... more time spent with her daughter and grandchildren who lived here in Chicago.
To the benefit of Lincoln Park, she and her daughter Laurie Wilson in September opened a specialty eclectic, contemporary American food shop. Called Giselle’s, the shop is named after Sanders’ mother whose photo graces the wall at the tastefully decorated store at 1967 N. Halsted St.
“Tasteful” is the key word for this small storefront that, with the help of Chef Ryan Steward, mixes a Euro-style charm with urban demands for fine meals ready to eat. The menu changes daily but will include breakfast patisserie, customized lunches and dinners, artisanal cheeses, as well as specialties from the rotisserie, an array of salads and seasonal vegetables.
Need a whole suckling pig or leg of lamb? Perhaps pancetta-wrapped grilled rabbit, a seared sesame encrusted tuna or a portobello polenta tower to delight a vegetarian? It’s all only a phone call and short walk away for many Lincoln Parkers.
Save room for dessert too as the signature dish is a peanut toffee fudge tart with a “G” swirled onto the top. The pumpkin spice creme brulee and fruit tarts rate highly as well.
Giselle’s is open every day except Monday. The restaurant is strictly carry-out as there are no tables. Some pre-packaged food and gift items are also available. Catering will be available for the holidays as well. Call (312) 266-7880 for more details. |
