Chicago educational groups receive $15,000 in grants

Fifteen local school and community groups received more than $15,000 in grants from the Friends of MidAmerica Bank Chicago Area Public Schools program last month. The program, formerly the Friends of Mid Town Public Schools, is designed to assist teachers in increasing parent and community support and involvement.
“A public education is a cherished right of all Americans and a cornerstone of prosperity for individuals and communities,” said F. Alex Gardner, vice president of community lending and development for MidAmerica Bank. “We’re proud to be a part of the effort to nurture a high quality education system for generations to come.”

Audubon School, 3500 N. Hoyne Ave., Junior High Life: The Audubon Edition
Augustus H. Burley School, 1630 W. Barry Ave., Cool Clubs for Kids program
Blaine School, 1420 W. Grace St., SAFA-READ
Franklin Fine Arts Center, 225 W. Evergreen Ave., tap dance program
Inter-American Magnet School, 919 W. Barry Ave., English as a Second Language program
LeMoyne Elementary School, 851 W. Waveland Ave., Entrepreneurial Endeavor program
Louisa May Alcott School, 2625 N. Orchard St., Friday mini-courses program
Nettelhorst School, 3252 N. Broadway, Parent and Community partnership
Newberry Math & Science Academy, 700 W. Willow St., Walking Through the Rain Forest
Oscar Mayer School, 2250 N. Clifton Ave., Families Reading Together project
Prescott School, 1632 W. Wrightwood Ave., Parents Make a Difference project
Schneider School, 2957 N. Hoyne Ave., Math Magic at Home project and Parent Game Day
Von Humboldt School, 2620 W. Hirsch St., computer education
For the past 14 years, the Friends of Public Schools program has contributed more than $120,000 to a wide variety of school projects in the area.
MidAmerica Bank, which operates 34 branches in the Chicago area, is the largest Illinois-based thrift in the country.
