Dual admissions agreement expands opportunities for City College students

Argosy University/Chicago’s President David Harpool, has announced that a formal agreement has been signed between Argosy University/Chicago and the City Colleges of Chicago. The new agreement, entitled the Dual Admissions Agreement, will expand educational opportunities for thousands of current and prospective students attending any one of the seven community colleges in the Chicago area.
The agreement was spearheaded by Kathy Sheridan, vice president of academic affairs for Argosy University/Chicago, and Bernard M. Ferreri, associate vice chancellor of arts and sciences for the City Colleges of Chicago.
“Today marks a significant occasion for Argosy University, the City Colleges of Chicago and the students we serve,” Sheridan said. “The decision to form this partnership reinforces Argosy’s commitment and the commitment of the City Colleges to provide students and prospective students throughout the Chicago area with expanded educational opportunities to pursue a career oriented education.”
According to Sheridan, under the new agreement students will be able to complete their associate’s degree under any one of the seven City Colleges of Chicago umbrella and then make a seamless transition into Argosy University/Chicago’s bachelor program. The agreement could have a far-reaching effect considering that approximately 50,000 full-time students currently attend the seven schools within the City Colleges of Chicago system. These schools include Daley, Harold Washington, Harry S. Truman, Kennedy-King, Malcolm X, Olive-Harvey and Wilbur Wright Community Colleges.
“We are committed to erasing barriers that would deter any individual interested in a career in psychology or business from succeeding,” Harpool said. “This agreement encourages students interested in these professions to take a serious look at continuing their education. It opens the door for these students to effectively pursue a bachelor’s degree.”
In addition to the smooth transition, the Dual Admissions Agreement also presents a number of other benefits to students. While enrolled at a community college, students in the Dual Admissions program will have complete access to the Argosy University system. Essential services available to students include: academic counseling, early financial aid planning, access to and use of the Argosy University library, and access to the Offices of Admissions and Records. Students will also be invited to meet with a designated Argosy University advisor at the onset of the program to develop a tailored plan of study and attain an understanding of their academic requirements upon launching their undergraduate curriculum.
“Our partnership with Argosy University developed out of a mutual commitment to furthering our students’ liberal arts foundation with a career oriented focused education,” Ferreri said. “This agreement will encourage our students to continue their education and receive a bachelor’s degree.”
