?Sing-A-Long Wizard of Oz? at Oriental Theatre

The National Tour of “Sing-A-Long Wizard of Oz,” an exciting theatrical experience, combining audience participation with a beautifully restored version of the most beloved motion picture of all time, makes its world premiere Jan. 4 and opens Jan. 11 at the Ford Center for the Performing Arts. “Sing-A-Long Wizard of Oz” is a unique, fun-filled theatrical event, complete with a master of ceremonies to introduce the film and run the proceedings, a Perform-A-Long Fun Pack (bubbles, noise maker, magic wand and kazoo), and a costume parade and contest. The Oscar-winning film is enhanced with on-screen icons and subtitles for all of the movie’s songs and key scenes allowing the audience to become an integral part of the magical, musical experience.
After making its debut in Chicago, “Sing-A-Long Wizard of Oz” will tour nationally and internationally.
“Wizard of Oz” will be shown in its original large screen format. The digitally restored and re-mastered film features Dolby Digital Stereo Sound and state-of-the-art technical improvements executed by acclaimed film restoration experts at Warner Bros.
The audience participation and all the live elements of “Sing-A-Long Wizard of Oz” were created by director/choreographer Marc Robin, who has directed more than 100 theatrical productions; and writers Craig Cackowski and T.J. Shanoff, whose extensive backgrounds in comedy include productions at Second City and Improv Olympics.
“Sing-A-Long Wizard of Oz” will play at the Oriental Theatre, the gloriously restored 1920s movie palace where Judy Garland performed in 1934. The performance will take place on Saturdays at 7:30 p.m. and Sundays at 2 p.m. and run through March 2. The theater is located at 24 W. Randolph St. The production is presented as part of Chicago Winter Delights: It’s a Cool Place, the citywide promotion that runs from Jan. 2 through March 2, 2003.
