As the battle over the site of Columbus Hospital ends, the Lincoln Park Improvement Task Force has proven to be a powerful force in the arena of pro-development. While the situation winds down, the Task Force continues to grow in membership, is announcing a Board of Directors and beginning to tackle new issues.
The Lincoln Park Improvement Task Force was created during the summer of 2002 “to show residents and business owners the effect of advocating for positive growth and development in Lincoln Park.” Task Force President Jim Bidwill says that he was not surprised by the number of people who recently became members of the organization. “We knew that we were not alone when the organization was created,” said Bidwill. “Once people understood that our primary goal was to increase the Lincoln Park economy, businesses and residents were eager to let us advocate for them.”
Among the projects on Lincoln Park Improvement Task Force’s agenda, one was to select a Board of Directors to act as ambassadors to the community. The organization is currently run by officers Bob Stine (vice president), Ray Carso (vice president) and Jim Bidwill (president). They have recently invited several influential community members to join as Board of Directors, including Inside Publisher Ron Roenigk and Jim Stelles of JS Group Properties.
“This is just the first of several actions the organization plans to take over the next year to continue building the reputation of the Task Force,” said Bidwill. “Our goal is to become the largest organization representing businesses and residents in Lincoln Park.”
With all the changes and new additions to the Lincoln Park Task Force in 2002, it was decided to have a post-holiday gathering Wednesday, Jan. 8, at Frank’s, 2503 N. Clark St. Food and drinks will be provided by Frank’s and Joey Bueno’s Beef Catering. Validated parking will be offered.
Bidwill says the purpose behind the gathering is to unite the organization for 2003. “We want to provide an opportunity for anyone interested in supporting positive economic growth in Lincoln Park to learn more about the Task Force and upcoming issues facing our community.” An RSVP is required; call (773) 472-1109.
The mission statement of the group is: “Lincoln Park Improvement Task Force strives to preserve the integrity and enhance the quality of life in Lincoln Park through economic growth. It works with residents and businesses to beautify, maintain and bring new businesses to Lincoln Park, securing its future as one of Chicago’s best neighborhoods. The Task Force is motivated to continue building Lincoln Park as a great neighborhood offering its residents and business owners the very best environment.” For more information, please visit www.improvelincolnpark.org. |
