Magnolia/Malden Neighbors Block Club demands action

The night before Christmas was punctuated by gunshots fired in the 4500 block of N. Magnolia Ave. at 8:20 p.m.
On the way to the scene, responding officers encountered a vehicle driven by a 34-year-old male with an 18-year-old female passenger at a firehouse in the 1200 block of W. Wilson Ave. The driver had sustained four gunshot wounds and the passenger was wounded in the arm. They were stabilized at the firehouse and then taken to Illinois Masonic Hospital for further treatment.
The couple had been leaving the home of the female passenger when a black male, 25, 6’ and 160 lb., approached the driver and began shooting into the vehicle. The driver escaped through an alley and drove to the firehouse.
The offender is believed to be the boyfriend of the female passenger. A witness stated that the alleged offender threatened the female passenger in the past. The alleged offender is being sought by police.
Roy Meyer, safety chair of the Magnolia/Malden Neighbors Block Club, notified members of the violence that has plagued the neighborhood.
“On Dec. 10, a gang banger was arrested for possessing a firearm, shots were fired on Dec. 13, shots were heard fired on Dec. 18, and on Dec. 24 a black P-stone Ranger shot his girlfriend,” Meyer wrote. The letter states that all these incidents occurred between the 4500 block and the 4800 block of N. Magnolia Ave.
“I can not stress enough the importance of stopping the gang bangers before ‘shots fired’ becomes another ‘shooting,’” Meyer said. He added that, according to a special report by the Chicago Sun-Times on Dec. 22, the 46th Ward where the incident took place is reported to be one in which gangs are active in politics. Meyer urged citizens to be watchful and to call 911 to report any suspicious or gang activity. |
