Aids Foundation launches marathon training

This spring, Chicago will debut a new marathon training program that will raise funds for HIV/AIDS services throughout the city. Informational meetings about the program will be held from 7 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, March 11, Thursday, March 20, and Tuesday, March 25, at the John Merlo Branch Library, 644 W. Belmont Ave. Please call (312) 765-0210 to RSVP for these meetings or to find out about other meeting dates and locations.
In conjunction with Walk-The-Talk Productions, the six-month training program begins April 26 and allows participants to select either the LaSalle Bank Chicago Marathon or the Dublin Marathon in Ireland in which to run. Developed by Olympic athlete and world-renowned marathon trainer Jeff Galloway, the training program combines both running and walking to prepare participants to go the 26.2-mile distance. Program staff and professional coaches will host weekend training runs at five sites throughout the city and suburbs that will also include comprehensive information on nutrition, gear, and exercise.
The comprehensive National AIDS Marathon Training Program provides participants step-by-step training to complete a marathon—from what shoes to buy to advice on nutrition. The training program is geared to both beginners and experienced runners. In exchange for the specialized training and support, participants raise funds to benefit prevention and care services funded through the AIDS Foundation of Chicago’s grantmaking program.
