Body and Mind Seminar at Midwest Buddhist Temple

Create harmony of body and mind through physical and spiritual practices of yoga, Ki (energy) movement and sitting and walking meditation at the Body and Mind Seminar. The spring Body and Mind Seminar will be held at the Midwest Buddhist Temple, 435 W. Menomonee St., on Saturday, March 15, from 9 a.m. to 4:15 p.m. These practices develop tranquillity in the body and the mind, creating calmness, peacefulness, warmth and openness.
Payment of $40, which includes a vegetarian pizza lunch with fruit and soft drinks, is requested before March 11. Participants are asked to wear loose-fitting, comfortable clothes. Smoking, alcoholic beverages and non-prescription drugs are not permitted.
Registration is from 9 to 9:30 a.m. The seven-hour seminar will begin with yoga practice led by Dr. Susan Gilkey. Preceding meditation practice will be instruction and orientation to meditation, led by John Hite, senior leader of MBT meditation group for 23 years. Meditation practice will be led by Rev. Koshin Ogui (temple priest) and John Hite, followed by a dharma talk by Rev. Ogui, an 18th generation Buddhist priest from Japan.
After lunch (12:45 to 1:45 p.m.), Dr. Michiyo Chew will lecture on and demonstrate ki (energy) movement. The seminar will close with a second session of meditation and dharma talk.
